Move over, Michigan. Your favorite card game is coming to Horse Thief Hollow. We’re playing Euchre every Tuesday at HTH.
League Details
In the HTH league, you sign up individually & earn points for yourself—not for a fixed team.
- The league runs for 4 weeks at a time, and we play on Tuesdays from 7–9 pm.
- The entrance fee is $20, payable after you register. The first 16 players to sign up are guaranteed a spot. After that, we’ll maintain a waitlist & add players in groups of 4.
- Each Tuesday features 4 timed games—up to 20 minutes per round, with a 10-minute break between games.
- Individual points are awarded each week based on games won. Wendy, our league manager, will explain the scoring system, & she’ll update the standings every week.
- At the end of the month, HTH will award gift cards to the top three individual scorers: $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd, & $25 for 3rd.

A Brief History of Euchre
Euchre has been around since the early 1800s, probably brought over by European immigrants who weren’t about to leave their favorite card games behind. It caught on fast in the Midwest & parts of Canada—& honestly, it never really left. If you grew up in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, or Ontario, there’s a good chance your grandma could shuffle & deal faster than you can order a beer.
The game has even left its mark on everyday language—to get “euchred” means to get tricked or swindled, which feels about right if you’ve ever had the Jack of the wrong suit cost you a round.
Oh, & here’s a fun one: Euchre may be the reason we have Joker cards at all. Early decks added the Joker specifically for Euchre’s top trump—sometimes called the “Best Bower.” So the next time you pull a Joker out of a deck, you can blame (or thank) this game.
